Also spelled  yeshivah , or  yeshibah (Hebrew “sitting”) , plural  yeshivas,  yeshivot,  yeshivoth , or  yeshibot  any of numerous Jewish academies of Talmudic learning, whose biblical and legal exegesis and application of Scripture have defined and regulated Jewish religious life for centuries.
